The game is similar to lawn tennis, except that the ball is smaller and is propelled across the net by small rackets. In fact, ping pong has become a very popular sport, with people playing it in clubs, bars and even at home.

In a ping pong game, you can get points by hitting the ball to your opponent’s side of the table. You can also get points when your opponent hits the ball out of bounds.

Serving in Ping Pong

The serve must be diagonal for doubles games, but can be served anywhere in singles play. In order to serve diagonally, the ball must be thrown from the right rectangle of your side of the table and hit the opposite rectangle on your opponent’s side of the table.

If you miss your first shot, the ball will bounce on your side of the table before going over the net. This extra bounce gives the game its onomatopoeic name of ping pong.

How to Serve in Ping Pong

The serving rule in ping pong is quite simple. You must always hit the ball at least six inches out and above from your palm, and then you should place it behind the line. This should give you plenty of time to hit it and allow the ball to bounce before going over the net.
