From its humble beginnings as a parlor game in England in the late 1800s to its status as an Olympic sport, ping pong has captured the hearts of people around the world. It’s fun, social, and a great workout for both the body and mind. We are proud to carry a wide variety of tables, paddles, and balls for the sport of ping pong.
When you play ping pong, the ball is played back and forth between two players using a table divided by a net and a bat (also known as a racket). A skilled player can use spin to make the ball unpredictable and difficult for their opponent to return. In addition, a good ping pong player can alter the ball’s bounce and reaction on their opponent’s bat with a variety of techniques.
In ping pong, the two players alternate serving, and each point is won by the first player to successfully hit the ball over the net into their opponent’s side. To serve, hold the ball in your open palm and toss it at least 6” straight up. Then, strike it on its way down with the interior side of your paddle—the side that lines up with your hand.
Ping pong balls are traditionally white or orange with a matte finish. Orange balls are generally used in more casual ping pong games between friends or co-workers, while white balls are typically reserved for tournaments and practice.
