The Game of Ping Pong

The game of ping pong is an excellent way to improve hand-eye coordination, boost concentration and increase cognitive function. It’s also a great stress reliever and helps to keep you fit. Studies show that playing ping pong is better for your brain than weightlifting, walking, dancing or gymnastics.

Ping pong is played on a scaled down tennis-like court, on a table with a net across the middle. The game is contested by two or more players who play volleys of a lightweight hollow ball using small rackets (bats, paddles) held in each hand. It is popular throughout the world and is considered a recreational sport.

Although ping pong and table tennis are the same game, people generally use the term “ping pong” to describe a more casual style of playing, often at bars or their mates’ house. When referring to the more formal, competitive side of the sport which is competed in leagues and tournaments, it is usually referred to as table tennis.

The rules of ping pong are relatively simple. The ball must be hit with the full face of the paddle and returned with the same force, and no other player can interfere. If a player is obstructing the ball or hitting it on the edge of the table, a point will be awarded to the opposing team.

The best way to get a feel for the game is to visit your local table tennis club or find a friend who is interested in playing. They’ll be able to give you a lesson and get you started with some basic skills. Once you’re comfortable with the basics, try playing in action mode to experience different special rules that will change how the game is played!
